Additional D-Link DSS-5+ 5-Port 10/100 Switch, Desktop Information
|
D-Link¿s DSS-5+ is a 5-port 10/100Mbps desktop switch that is an ideal choice for small workgroups. The DSS-5+ allows users to simply plug any port to either a 10Mbps Ethernet or 100Mbps Fast Ethernet network for compatibility, convenience, and faster connection. Each port on the DSS-5+ supports automatic MDI/MDIX detection providing true 'plug and play' capability without the need for confusing crossover cables or crossover ports. With the media auto-sensing feature, plug in the network cable to the DSS-5+ directly without the need to worry if the end node is a NIC (Network Interface Card) or switch/hub. The DSS-5+ also supports flow control and auto-negotiation of half or full duplex transfer modes for each port. The DSS-5+ provides dynamic memory allocation for data flow control to guarantee against possible packet loss. The DSS-5+ uses fast store-and-forward switching to ensure low data latency and prevents error packages from transmitting among segments.

The only gripe I have about this switch is that it uses a power cable, and the power cable included isnt really long enough in my opinion. This switch is absolutely fantastic for what you pay for. This switch has extremely low latency when using it as well as a small kinda compact design.
Success. You plug it in and now you have more ports. Hurrah. Not much to report except that it's as painless as technology will ever get.
I've been using this switch non-stop ever since I bought it years ago and it has been fully functional.
They have been running 6 months and counting with all the ports active in both locations. I have yet to have a problem with the 2 that I bought, one for home and one for work. I have typically been a Linksys only customer, but being frustrated with some of their products lately I decided to make a switch, and I'm glad I did. It's compact design makes it easy to tuck it away.
The fifth port is tied to the dsl modem. This unit only has 4 ports availible. If you only need 4 ports, this unit is great. The 5 port switch works great. Unfortunately I needed five ports that I could use.
